An Excerpt from Leo Strauss in Remembering University of Chicago
From the time of his first work on Spinoza, Strauss wrote in 1962, "the theological-political problem has remained the theme of my investigations/" The problem —— the conflict between the claims of revelations (Jerusalem) and of reason (Athens) —— could never be resolved. It was, however, "the secret of the vitality of Western civilizations."
